Tiffany 'Land Under Wave' Aching

Description

So, based on an offhand whim after I finished re-reading The Wee Free Men a few months ago, I decided that every time I finished reading a Tiffany Aching (Terry Pratchett, Discworld) book, I would sketch out a character design for Tiffany based on descriptions in the text. More than most other books, I always get extremely distinct images in my head whenever I read this series of exactly how the characters and environments and such should look, so these designs pretty much flowed naturally once I got started. (Well, clearly my first Tiffany on the left there was pretty strongly influenced by some fanart *hot-choc did a while back [link] [link] , but I think it's still pretty close to how I imagined her when I first read that book years and years ago.)

Working on coloring this last night made me realize how awesome it could be if I had a chance to do a graphic novel adaptation of The Wee Free Men. I mean, I'd have to severely upgrade my skills first, but that book, more than either of the sequels...lots of the scenes still profoundly affect me, whether in rereading or just in remembering, that book is so powerful. Especially the flashback where Granny Aching "brings the dead lamb back to life", I still get shivers when I think of the beginning of that scene.

I added the textured background to try to give some character to this piece, rather than just have a blank white background, but I think I overdid it... :P

Also, if there's anything I supremely screwed up in terms of matching these designs to the descriptions in the books (especially Tiffany's eyes, I swear I remember her as brown-eyed but couldn't find any confirmation online...also the color scheme of her Wintersmith outfit here, I went with green partly for Christmas colors and partly because of her whole thing with the Summer Lady there, but I also might've missed some important bit of description), let me know so I can put it on a list of corrections to make to this for whenever I get to read (and therefore add a character design for) I Shall Wear Midnight.
